Di queste, alcune, 17.000 circa, dormivano con una luce notturna all’interno della stanza; altre, oltre 13.000, invece, lasciavano una luce accesa all’esterno della camera. Circa 5.000 dormivano con la televisione accesa o una luce nella camera da letto.
Lo studio è durato sei anni ed è emerso che quelle donne che dormivano con la TV accesa o la luce accesa in camera da letto avevano il 22% di probabilità di sviluppare sovrappeso fin anche obesità, con punte anche del 33%, rispetto a quelle donne che dormivano al buio o con la luce flebile notturna.
I motivi per cui la luce avrebbe effetti sulla massa corporea non sono ancora del tutto spiegati, potrebbe trattarsi di un problema connesso con la difficoltà o meno di addormentarsi e quindi di influire sul metabolismo dell’organismo.
